Mellifont to Rathmullan
Map of the Earl of Tyrone’s
route after he received news at Mellifont that a ship had arrived at Rathmullan
to convey him to the continent. Tyrone weeps as he bids farewell to
acquaintances at Mellifont.
Emotional scenes continue as the
countess of Tyrone falls from her horse as the fugitive party crosses the
Sperrin mountains, distraught at the prospect of having to leave her young son,
Con, behind.

An undignified skirmish occurs at
Rathmullan between the earls’ followers and local MacSweeney’s. The earls’
ship departs Rathmullan, soon running in to a storm as it passes Arranmore
island off the North West Coast of Ireland.
