Mellifont to Rathmullan 

Map of the Earl of Tyrone’s route after he received news at Mellifont that a ship had arrived at Rathmullan to convey him to the continent. Tyrone weeps as he bids farewell to acquaintances at Mellifont.

Emotional scenes continue as the countess of Tyrone falls from her horse as the fugitive party crosses the Sperrin mountains, distraught at the prospect of having to leave her young son, Con, behind.

An undignified skirmish occurs at Rathmullan between the earls’ followers and local MacSweeney’s. The earls’ ship departs Rathmullan, soon running in to a storm as it passes Arranmore island off the North West Coast of Ireland.
